By chance ! I read some articles on so called lucky and unlucky people and last week even saw a movie with the same theme , I find this factor which plays a very importent role in everybodys life very interesting , I will try n list down below various thoughts ,logic and whatever I have read so far and experienced which defines the term Luck.
In one of the American universities they did a small experiment , I dont remember the name now but what they did was they called 100 volunteers who considered themselves very lucky and were very satisfied and content with whatever they acheived in life , they considered themselved successfull and 100 others who considered themselves super unlucky who were not where they wanted to be in life who considered themselves a failure .
All the volunteers were given a newspaper to read and there task was to find out a box having a jwellery add inside within a certain time limit .The result of the exercise was quite interesting out of the 100 so called not so lucky volunteers most of them could not find it and the most of the lucky 100 were able to , the box was on the third page of the newspaper with a bold outline also the fonts were bigger than the content of the rest of the paper still then the so called unlucky volunteers failed the test.The inference which the university team took out with this observation was that the so called lucky people can sense the oppurtunity and hang on to it , they have better perceptive powers and are more active and receptive to the ambience around them where as this is not the case with the unlucky one's , they are not able to sense oppurtunities quickly and and are not active as well.
So to my friends who consider themselves unlucky and who agree with the above logic , I guess the only way to get to the other side is to be more receptive , active ..keep your eyes open and hang on to the oppurtunities you get.
There is one part of the society which tag themselves unlucky just to hide there inefficiency which leads them to failure most of the time and they do not shy from labelling there successfull counterparts as lucky rather than givin them credit for there success.
There was a popular Web based game ESPN super selector where users can make there own team by selecting players and they will be awarded points based on there selected players performace on the field(real time matches) , the user who earned maximum points at the end of the season won.
Like all others Geoffrey Boycott and Navjot Sidhu were also playing the game , at the end of first season Sidhu won , Harsha Bhogle asked Boycott "Sir , Sidhu won what happend to you ??" to this he replied in his Yockshire accent "Sidhu is loucky and I am unloucky".
Same happened in season -II and season -III , Bhogle again went to Boycott "Sir , Sidhu again won what happend to you ??" Boycott- "Sidhu is loucky and I am unloucky".
Sidhu was miffed by this time as Boycott never gave him credit and appreciated that his selection of players are much better than Boycotts.
At the end of 5th season Sidhu won again and he had won 5 times in a row now , Bhogle gave him
a big cup for his super performace to this Jeffory Boycott again stated "Sidhu is loucky and I am unloucky" , Sidhu blasted Boycott this time around , this is what he said
"Yes Sir I am lucky and you are unlucky and you are so unlucky that if I put you inside a drum of tits you will still come out sucking your thumb " :)
Yes , and how can I Forget the movie Luck by Chance , the theme was that Success and failures are the choices we make , it may make sense to some may not to some , does make sense to me though.
Luck is always there its a fact but it favours those who work hard and are adept at there jobs .
lets not forget the saying "Fortune favours the brave".
